In Memorandum U2021-013 posted on the Feast of St. Ignatius, July 31, former University President Roberto C. Yap SJ expressed his earnest gratitude for having given the opportunity to serve and share “in the Mission of Xavier Ateneo” for nine years, and bids a heartfelt farewell to the community as Fr. Mars P. Tan, SJ succeeds him.

August 1 marked the official first day of Fr. Tan as the University President as announced by XU on the same date. The same post briefly provided an introduction to the experiences and background of Fr. Tan and concludes with, “The whole Xavier Ateneo community welcomes Fr Mars and assures him of the all-out support as he begins his new journey as University President.”

As a response to the welcoming greetings Fr. Tan imparted a message to the XU community, “I am here ready and happy to serve you and the mission that is Xavier Ateneo and those we are called to serve outside our school. I am here also asking for your prayers and support as we together overcome the pandemic challenges while aiming higher and bolder in the months and years ahead!”C
