XU holds requiem mass for Ayangod family
A requiem mass for BS Biology student Esther Ayangod, BS Psychology student Joseph Ayangod, and their family was held at the XU Immaculate Conception Church on Aug 18, 12PM, presided by Fr. Gabriel Gonzalez, SJ.
For those who were not able to physically attend the Eucharist, a Facebook live was made available by the XU Immaculate Conception Church page.
Gonzalez began his homily with a remark on the heartbreak and loss that we feel after losing someone we care for especially when they are young, saying that we not only mourn for the person but also all that person could have been and could have had a longer life. He added, “Together with this double double heartbreak is a sense of confusion especially because of the circumstances in which their lives were cut short to have perished in a house fire, and to have perished with their parents. It is nothing less than a tragedy that we are faced with and we want to make sense of it but cannot.” Despite being unable to make sense of the events, Gonzales chose the Gospel Reading, in hopes that it may accompany those in heartbreak and uncertainty.
