XU bags second place in the 2020 Facebook Global Digital Challenge
On July 6, XU received second place in the Fall 2020 Facebook Global Digital Challenge (FGDC) during the livestream held on EdVenture Partner’s youtube channel from 11:30PM-1:30AM. FGDC is an experiential learning program involving student-led university teams that propose projects targeted to prevent violence and terrorism.
Representatives from BS Development Communication namely, Joshua Delos Reyes, John Carcosia, Zellyn Virtudazo, Nathalie Paler, Marygan Denisse Alcala, Michael Unsay, John Bradshaw, Terenz Gambe, Cecilmay Cutamora, and Kent Tagarda under the guidance of Marvin Pamisa, Rechelle Tolinero-Barraquias, and Evans Yonson advocated for the I am Mindanao campaign which is about addressing violent extremism, discrimination, and hate speech in Mindanao.
The brand this year was “Mindanao is YOUth.” It centralizes on how the youth has become the vulnerable targets for violent extremist activities and recruitments. Nonetheless, even in the midst of a global pandemic, they emerge as victors of peace.
Pamisa assured that there are future plans awaiting, such as working with out-of-school youth and producing community-based podcasts on peace promotions in terms of the community level. He revealed, “We want to teach the out-of-school youth, the essence of being peace champions every single day.”
Aside from XU, the other featured finalists were Ankara Universitesi from Turkey (first place), and Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University from India (third place).C
