Kauswagan, CDO launches community pantry amid pandemic crisis

On April 19, University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman Instructor Rene Principe Jr. opened up the first makeshift community pantry in Kauswagan, CDO. The community pantry is located in Zone-4 Pasil, Brgy. Kauswagan, next to Lina Store and near Tabada Lechon.

Following the initiative of the Maginhawa Community Pantry which unfolded in Quezon City, it has slowly spread in Mindanaoan provinces. The emergence of these “community pantries” started as an endeavor to provide mutual help to those who are in dire need during these setbacks.

In these community pantries, residents are encouraged to donate any essential goods, such as canned foods, rice, or vegetables to help those who are deeply affected by the COVID-19 crisis. These essential goods can then be freely taken by anyone in the said communal area—jeepney drivers, laborers, construction workers, or street vendors.

Citizens are urged to contribute in any way they can, however small it is. These small yet genuine donations are great assistance for Kagay-anons who are struggling during this health crisis and who are in need of a helping hand.

Currently, the Kauswagan Community Pantry is taking in all kinds of donations. Basic food commodities can be easily dropped off in the community area; whereas, monetary donations can be given in the form of GCash (09672284183), PayMaya (09361005385), and BDO (002840468669).C
